Last Saturday, the Prep School enjoyed a wonderful morning of athletics at their annual Sports Day, which was held at the SVS track. Over 150 children took part in a number of different track and field events and, despite the wind, brief rain shower and hot sun, everyone put in so much effort to earn points for their House.

Pupils in Year 5 Art Club have had a great time designing clocks. The project was facilitated by Mr Kirk, Head of Design and Technology at the Senior School. Their brief, as product designers, was to design and make a clock which captured the style of Alessi.

Design and Technology in Years 3, 4 and 5 has flourished and the children have had a lot of fun! Our Year 3 children stretched their paper folding skills to create origami monsters. They decorated them to bring to life monstrous characters that grabbed their pneumatic systems with open jaws! The children persevered with attaching syringes and tubing, controlling the air pressure to open and close their monster’s mouths and evaluating their fun, finished product.

With the end of the academic year clearly on the horizon for pupils, staff and parents, it is possibly the right time to reflect, and celebrate, the past year. We have enjoyed our first year of non-interrupted face-to-face teaching, a shock to some pupils and definitely our staff! It is encouraging to witness the accelerated learning of our children that face-to-face teaching facilitates.

In assembly this morning, Mrs Skelly's Year 5 Mathematics set competed against each other in a TTRockstar's rock off! The pupils were put into three groups and had to race each other. They had the extra pressure of the audience and cheering, but they all performed brilliantly! The winner of each group went into the finals.

Our Year 4 pupils have used their Super Hoot power of looking skills to analyse the paintings of the artist L.S Lowry. They have identified his use of foreground, middle ground and background to create depth in his compositions, along with his iconic matchstick figures and love of industrial buildings.
