Arena Eventing Success
Last weekend, Amelia P (Year 5) and Isla D (Year 6) travelled to Coombelands to take part in some Arena Eventing. This is a mixture of Show Jumping and Cross Country. It is normally a course made up of 12 to 16 jumps and includes a vast network of left and right turns, which need to be firstly remembered and then secondly navigated with your pony.

However, it is evident that a significant number of children within our School community are regularly using the app, evidenced, amongst other ways, by the number of dances that are being repeated in the corridors and on the playground.

This week, children in Year 1 enjoyed exploring the story ‘The Ugly Five’ in English. They have justified their views and written reasons why a certain animal is the ugliest. They have also learnt how to vote, selecting reasons for and against and articulating their opinions.

This week Mr Scholey visited Reception as part of the ‘Science Investigations’ topic. The children found out about how differing forces are applied when riding a bike and heard all about gears and brakes too.

Children in Reception were inspired by their topic ‘Floating and Sinking’ and enthusiastically embraced the artistic potential that their scientific exploration offered. They discussed and experimented with floating flowers, working in pairs to create water scenes using natural objects.

As anyone who witnessed the Celebration Assembly this morning will know, mistakes are a fact of life. It is how we respond to them that matters. I hope that my response in front of the children when faced with a delayed arrival, lack of connectivity, and then clumsiness and forgetfulness on my part, will have helped to demonstrate that we all make mistakes and that calmness and self-deprecation (as well as learning from the mistakes of course) are often the best policies!
