Year 1 visited the Kent Firefighting Museum on Monday, where the pupils met two firemen who taught them how to stay safe in the event of a fire. The children were shown helmets, hoses, steamers, and other traditional artefacts used by firefighters in the past. The children learned how firefighting has changed through the years and since The Great Fire of London. They discovered that, in the past, a person’s house would only be protected by firefighters, if they paid a fee. Pupils in Year 1 know that, thankfully, we are all protected today by brave fire fighters. The real fire engine and horse drawn fire cart were excellent examples showing the change in fire fighting equipment. A great time was had by all.
