Our Year 6 children have been working collaboratively to create a display that embodies the powerful, rich message that we should treasure the pleasure of wonderful words. Words are all around us, in books, songs, poems, writing, talking and listening. Words are free, even though they are glittering, precious gems. It costs nothing to share words, yet they are so valuable and continuously enrich our lives.
Reading regularly reveals a treasure trove of vocabulary that can be embraced with pleasure and by wearing crowns of wonderful words, children can become inspired, wise writers. In the words of Walt Disney, “There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.”
Finally, with words comes the responsibility to use these jewels carefully, to choose kind words and generously share and nurture the pleasure of wonderful words!
