Our Music department had the pleasure of finally being able to host an on-site Violin Masterclass, inviting Professor Miller back into the School to work with several of our advanced violinists.
Sophie Browning (Fourth Form) started the day off with one of Mazas’ Etudes followed by the First Movement of Bach’s A Minor Concerto. Joseph Gillett and Alexander Tolhurst (both Lower Sixth) are only a couple of weeks away from their grade eight examinations, so this class provided the perfect opportunity to add a little extra polish to their performances. Both pupils worked on unaccompanied Bach pieces and contrasting repertoire by Bloch and Finzi.
Toni Tishe and Lydia Alexander (both First Form) impressed everyone with the maturity of their playing of Vivaldi and De Beriot and Mr Holmes was delighted that Anastasiia Trakalo (Upper Sixth) ended her time at SVS by playing the wonderful E Major Concerto by Bach.
As usual, Professor Miller thoroughly enjoyed the session and was highly impressed with the level of performance throughout the day. The masterclass is always a highlight of the year within the Music department, and we are grateful to Professor Miller for his time. We look forward to welcoming him back in the normal October slot.
