Totem poles are symbols of tradition amongst the indigenous people of North America and the word totem means family or clan. The Year 4 family took this to heart as they constructed Totem poles to tell a story about themselves.
Choosing an animal for the top of their Totem poles was a serious decision as it represents the qualities that an individual embodies and is known as their spirit animal. Year 4 personalised their Totem poles; decorating them with images that expressed: something they love about home, their family spirit animal, favourite food and finally, a hobby or sport they enjoy.
Creatively constructed from cardboard and paper (instead of being carved from an enormous Cedar tree) their Totem poles are unique and individual testaments to their tremendous tenacity, design skills and dedication to Design Technology!
