The U14As had huge success at the Tier 2 County Championships this week. Below is a report from the tournament by Lottie B and Esmee B (Third Form):
‘On the 3rd of October, the U14A team travelled to Sevenoaks. The first game we played was against Kent College Pembury, both teams defended well, and the score ended up being 0-0. After a break we played King’s Canterbury, we created lots of chances and ended up winning 2-0. As soon as we finished, we were onto the next game against Highworth, after a well-played 20 minutes of hockey, we came out victorious 4-0. This meant we came 1st in our group, and were up against Cranbrook school in a knockout game.
Despite dominating possession, we were unable to score leaving us with 0-0 draw. This meant shuffles (penalty shootout – 1v1 with the goalkeeper from 23 meters out and 8 seconds to score). We were able to win moving onto the final (which was a triangular) at Radnor House.
Replaying Kent College in the first game, earning a 1-0 win, which was the same result that Tunbridge Wells Girl’s Grammar (TWGGS) had against Kent College Pembury, making our last match technically the final. With TWGGS scoring an early goal, the girls became more determined to get it back. Then, with 4 minutes to go we scored from a penalty corner, leading us to shuffles once again. Because of some amazing saves by goalkeeper Esme, we managed to win and are now going to regionals.
Massive well done to the defence (Lulu, Ali, Aoife, Lottie and Cleo), to the midfield (Esmee, Beth, Lexi and Minnie), the attack (Sienna, Ivy, Dolly and Ella) and of course to our goalkeeper Esme. Also, a thank you to our coaches, Mr Braddick and Miss Giddings for giving us an opportunity to play some great hockey.’
We congratulate the girls on such success and wish them luck in the upcoming regionals!
