This term, in English, our Year 5 children have begun studying a new text, The Soup Movement by Ben Davis. It is set in present-day England and follows the story of a boy called Jordan, who encounters a homeless man living in a tent in the park.
What follows is a beautiful story of what happens next, and how we feel when we help others. So far, the children have written a diary entry through the eyes of Jordan, when he experienced other children taunting the homeless man, and a persuasive letter to the government to help those in need. Furthermore, the children are going to use this text to write a balanced argument, chronological and non-chronological reports, narrative pieces and poetry. We shall say no more, so as not to spoil the story!
