Year 6 had a wonderful time earlier this week, stepping back in time to experience life as evacuees during World War II! Dressed in period costume, they spent the day at Tenterden Railway Station, following in the footsteps of children from 1939 by travelling to “Wales” on a steam train.
One of the highlights was meeting a lady who had been evacuated from London to Kent in 1939 – the children loved asking her questions about her memories of the time. They also learnt about rationing (who knew you could make chocolate spread from mashed potatoes?) and even discovered the secrets of the black market with “Viv the Spiv”!
A huge thank you to everyone who made this unforgettable experience possible.
