In ordinary times, our Sixth Form students would begin our post-18 preparation programme, which supports them in the planning for the various options available after the Sixth Form. Mr Ellmers, Head of Sixth Form, has provided our students with a remodelled, virtual provision that they can follow throughout the lockdown period. You can find all of the details below:
Lower Sixth Microsoft Teams Group: L6th Post-18 Options
Please check this channel regularly, as there will be various opportunities that may be relevant as you consider your plans for after School. This will include links to virtual open days and university/apprenticeship fairs – in the absence of in-person open days, it is important that you make the most of all the virtual opportunities on offer to you.
Zoom: ‘Preparing for post-18 options’ every Friday at 2.30pm during period 5
Mr Ellmers will be hosting optional drop-in sessions on Zoom every Friday at 2.30pm to introduce you to the different options available after School. This will give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the respective processes.
Each week will have a different focus – please feel free to join as many introductory sessions as you consider relevant:
Friday 15th January – Applying to university (1);
Friday 22nd January – Applying to university (2);
Friday 29th January – Applying for apprenticeships;
Friday 5th February – Applying for direct employment;
Friday 12th February – Preparing for a gap year.
A Zoom link will be posted into the Team each week.
NextSteps Course
You all need to register for our new online course ‘NextSteps’, which has been designed to prepare you for the application processes that you will go through in the Upper Sixth and beyond. Please follow the registration instructions that will be posted on the L6th Team. It is expected that you will make adequate progress through the interactive content on university, apprenticeship, gap year and employment options – it is recommended that you set aside some time on Wednesday afternoons to work through the course; Lockdown represents a prime opportunity for you to make headway with the course – it is self-paced, but your progress will be monitored.
