This week, children in Year 1 enjoyed exploring the story ‘The Ugly Five’ in English. They have justified their views and written reasons why a certain animal is the ugliest. They have also learnt how to vote, selecting reasons for and against and articulating their opinions.
In Mathematics they have learnt the names and properties of three-dimensional shapes, beginning to compare and sort these appropriately. They have also been introduced to our new Phonics programme, Phonics Shed. The children loved singing the rhymes and listening to the stories of the characters.
It has been so lovely to send home our new reading books for our parents to share with their children. We have really enjoyed reading lots of exciting fiction and non-fiction texts.
