In P4L, Year 3 has been nurturing their pride by focusing on being ‘proud of who I am’! They read the book Red: A Crayon’s Story by Michael Hall.
Red crayon was not good at drawing red things, but he was great at drawing blue things! Using empathy and reactions from the other crayons in the story, Year 3 discussed how Red crayon was feeling. They became artful agony advisors, suggesting things Red crayon could do to stop worrying about being blue.
In previous lessons, the children have been introduced to the ISpace Wellbeing Planet Confidence four G’s: Aim for Good, Believe in Good, Do Good and Think Good, along with exploring concepts of self-confidence and self-esteem. Year 3 has been thinking about who they are and how they, as unique individuals, can build a strong foundation for their character by recognising positives and identifying their strengths.
Like Red crayon, Year 3 is aiming to be true to their inner self and be proud of being themselves because: ‘Why fit in when you were born to stand out?’ Dr Seuss.
