During Art this week, Year 4 has been learning to draw portraits and what better place to begin, than a portrait of themselves.
After familiarising themselves with facial proportions and the tricks of portrait accuracy, the children were encouraged to admire themselves in a mirror (some a little more enthusiastically than others). Did you know that you can fit five eyes across the width of your face and that your ears are the length of your eyebrow to the bottom of your nose?
Looking carefully at their features, they created a self-portrait and added colour using oil pastels. Their newly acquired oil pastel blending skills were put to the test as our Year 4 artists added textural and tonal details in the form of shadows, hair and background images that all portrayed their unique individuality.
