An annual end of term tradition, this year’s whole School Baton Race was won by Holdgate for Seniors, Founder’s for Inters and Lambe’s for the Juniors. This week, our Year 1 children have been learning about mummification. The children investigated this Ancient Egyptian process practically using soft toys. They disembowelled a soft toy, keeping the important organs in canopic jars that they had made, then stuffed the toys with herbs and sawdust before finally wrapping them in bandages so that they could live on in the afterlife.
The children were fully immersed in the topic and are using this knowledge to inspire their instruction writing, as well as creating an informative non-fiction fact file, in literacy.
