Nǐ hǎo, hello from Beijing!
By popular demand and following last year’s successful introduction to Chinese, our Year 6 students have been getting initiated with Mandarin Chinese during the Lent Term, where they learnt to say, “greetings from the ICT Room in our Prep School”. The programme they are following is very well designed with both language and cultural activities. Amongst other tasks, pupils also learnt to place main cities, rivers etc on a map, as well as learning greetings such as ‘happy birthday’ and ‘how are you?’.
They also have learnt the rudiments of the Chinese alphabet by tracing words on the screen. Our Year 6 students have mentioned that they have particularly enjoyed learning about the Chinese Zodiac signs and that they have found the pronunciation rather ‘awesome’! Each student is in a group of five allowing them to get full attention from their teacher during their live lesson.
