Last weekend our Senior String Group stepped beyond the comfort zone of school to participate on a public platform in the Maidstone Music Festival at Invicta Grammar School. Their hard work this term paid off with a really successful outcome. Avia, one of the group’s most senior members, has written a report on the events of the day:
I am Avia and I play the violin. Senior String is an instrumental group for violinists, violists, and cellists. We practise every Tuesday with our music teacher, Mrs Lordon, and on Sunday 27th November, we competed in a competition at Invicta Grammar School. We have been practising our two chosen songs since the beginning of term.
The first one we played, which I announced, was Parsnip Polka by Peter Martin, which is a song with a strong beat and short snappy notes. The second song we performed, which Lottie announced, was Bach and Beyond by J.S. Bach, a smooth flowing song with more mellow notes. We have an exceptionally talented group of musicians in Senior Strings: Oluwadarasimi B, Charlotte E, Amy J, Charlotte L, Isabelle R, Amy J and I do violin. Then you have Oscar B, Fiyifoluwa M and Soren S on cello. When we were there, we did some practising before we went to the main hall to compete.
Fortunately, with a lot of hard work and practise, we won with a distinction certificate and a first place medal. Everyone agreed that Mrs Lordon should have had the medal for all the work, effort and breaks she has given up for us. Either way, she was insistent that we should all share it.
