The SVPS Art room welcomed some visiting artists on Tuesday. Year 6 children from St Peter’s Church of England Primary School in Aylesford spent the morning getting a hands-on workshop with felting artist Sue Kimber. Following in the footsteps of our Year 6 pupils, they created felted landscapes inspired by Moy Mackay.
The Art room became a hive of pulling wool, laying fibres, choosing colours and creating compositions as the children came to grips with ‘painting’ with wool. It also resembled a wet room when the soapy water was added to the felting spell and after myriad manipulations of rolling their landscapes this way and that, they were ceremoniously thrown to the floor to weave the magic spell of knitting the fibres together to create felt. Not just any felt, but magical masterpieces that captured the colours and textures of Moy Mackay-inspired landscapes.
