Yesterday, our Upper Sixth took to the Netball court for the annual Boys vs Girls Netball match. Mariana Mason (Upper Sixth) reports on the game below:
“This always promises to be an entertaining game, with the boys playing against the girls, and there were plenty of supporters encouraging both teams from the side-lines. We saw some of the boys sporting netball dresses and the girls in green army camo.
The girls’ team consisted of Suzanna Fullick, Alice Gotke, Daisy Hills, Cameron Lamont-Brown, Sophie Lee, Desiree Loxton-Barnard, Grace Mitchell, Tess Pritchard, Katie Swift and Molly Veasey. Representing the boys were Sam Allison, Elliot Gooding, Maxwell Halliday, William Hunt, Edward Marsh, Finnian O’Keefe, Oliver Payne-Cook, Gregor Wishart, James Yeabsley and Archie Yorke.
A strong first quarter saw the girls shoot into the lead, with goals from Alice, Grace and Tess. By half-time, the girls were storming ahead with a score of 10-1. The boys’ inexperience in the sport was evident as Mrs Kitchen blew the whistle multiple times for footwork and for obstructing the girls in their attempts to shoot.
Whilst the odds were in the girls’ favour for knowledge of the game, undoubtedly the boys’ secret weapon was their height. The boys became increasingly determined and were able to intercept a few of the passes from the girls and they managed to claw back two more goals. However, this was not enough to win, and when the final whistle blew, the girls had won 13-3 thanks to Daisy Hills’ final goals.
It was a very enjoyable game to watch and it was a great way to conclude the last Netball season we will have at SVS.”
Well done to all of those involved and thank you to Mariana for the great report!
