On Saturday 24th April, our Lower Sixth parents were invited to attend our annual Higher Education morning, held virtually this year. Mr Grindlay welcomed everyone and spoke about the benefits of a university education, followed by Mr Ellmers, Head of Sixth Form, who gave a comprehensive overview of the UCAS system and our own internal preparation procedures. Mrs Ball, Academic Deputy Head, explained the procedure on A Level Results Day and Mrs Carter, Head of Careers, outlined how her one-to-one careers guidance can assist students in their decision-making process. The presentations were followed by a Q&A session.
One of the aims of the Higher Education Morning was to inform and engage parents in the UCAS application process, allowing us to support each student’s plans as effectively as possible. In preparation for their Higher Education applications, the Lower Sixth have been actively engaged in internal and external talks, webinars and presentations over the course of the year, which aim to assist them in their research and planning. On Monday 26th April, the Lower Sixth attended an ‘Introduction to Higher Education’ webinar delivered by the University of Cardiff, which gave students top tips on how to select and research courses and institutions.
We cater to the individual needs and plans of our students and we recognise that university is not the route for everyone. For those not wishing to apply to university, we will be holding a virtual Alternative Options Information Morning on Saturday 8th May from 10.45am – 12.15pm. Mr Ellmers has circulated the joining instructions for this event, and we hope to see many Lower Sixth parents in attendance.
