The Music department is delighted to announce that Jack Price (Upper Sixth) has been offered a place at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London to continue his violin studies.
Jack arrived at Sutton Valence School in the First Form with Grade 4 violin. Over four years, with the help of Mr Holmes, our Head of Strings, he went on to achieve Grade 8 distinction, which is remarkable. Jack was given a place in the Kent County Youth Orchestra.
During his time at the School, Jack has had the opportunity to work with Professor Nicholas Miller, FRAM to further refine his violin skills. This year, COVID restrictions resulted in auditions and interviews being held via video recordings and Zoom. In many ways, this proved more stressful than a live audition, but his performances of both Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole and Mozart’s Third Concerto were tremendously impressive.
Mr Holmes noted, “Jack has worked tirelessly to reach his goal and fully deserves this success. I have never taught anyone with his drive and determination to succeed. We are all extremely proud of him and we hope he will be able to demonstrate his skills in a live concert later in the academic year.”
Congratulations Jack, we are all so proud of you.
