Today we said a very sad goodbye to Andrea Savage, who has been our Head of Art for 8 years! Just this morning we held a special Super Hoot assembly to say a big thank you for everything she has done for the School and the countless students she has taught. Mr Watkins wrote a poem for Mrs Savage and as well as reading it in assembly he also had it printed on a t-shirt as a leaving gift. The full poem is below:
Art is…
Art is a dot in the middle of a page
Art can look like stillness or art can feel like rage
Art is always stylish, bedecked in cowboy boots
Art is often generous with loads of Superhoots
Art is curiosity and questioning what you see
Art is observation of the world ‘round you and me
Art’s bedecked in silver, round fingers, wrists and necks
Art is dots or spots or flicks or drips or drops or flecks
Art is being careful and trying to be neat
Art is messy business ‘til your painting is complete
Art is tidying up and putting everything away
Art is not exclusive; everyone can play
Art’s a slender figure encouraging all to have a go
Art is talk of artists, expanding everything you know
Art is independent and not going with the flow
Art is the initiative to put your skills on show
Art is filled with empathy for others and their plight
Art is reflection on the way to make things right
Art is always excellent, being the best that you can be
Art is collaboration, working as a team
Art is a cosy art room; all are welcome here
Art is trying something new without the need to fear
Art is being flexible with the way your plans turn out
Art is something original about which you can shout
Art is being tenacious when plans don’t seem to be working
Art is being brave and taking risks while you are learning
Art is installations and Year 6 exhibitions
Art is Arts Mark Gold and St Peter’s expeditions
Art is kind with open arms, encouraging everyone
Art is everywhere you look and always lots of fun
Art can be a moment or art can take an age
Art is pretty much whatever Mrs Savage says
Art will soon be leaving us to find some pastures new
But where Art’s been you’ll find that Art will always spring anew
Once again a huge thank you to Mrs Savage for everything!
