On Wednesday, our Girls’ Cricket U10A team participating in the SVS Cricket tournament, hosted on Upper. We welcomed Ashford Prep, Bede’s Prep, Derwent Lodge, Hilden Grange, Kent College and Saint Ronan’s Prep – it was wonderful to see all of the girls taking advantage of the opportunity to play tournament sport again!
The girls had not played a lot of games together, however, managed to start strong against Saint Ronan’s winning by 17 runs. Next, they came up against Hilden Grange and played brilliantly to secure a solid win by 33 runs. The next game was Ashford and the girls were very nervous playing against their close rivals. Their nerves managed to get the better of them and we lost by 19 runs.
Their confidence peaked when they found out they came top of the group, due to runs. This fired the girls up and they were ready for the semi-final against Kent College. They came out onto the pitch with determination in their eyes and smashed the runs throughout the innings! Esme S hit a super 6! We ended up losing by only three runs as our bowling could not match our previous games and we gave away too many no balls and wides.
An important lesson was learnt about losing and how to look at the negatives and work on them to turn them into positives! We then had to play Ashford again in the third and fourth playoff. The girls did their best and definitely improved on their bowling but they just couldn’t manage a win, losing by 19 runs and claiming fourth place overall.
Overall, we were so impressed with their effort – well done to Esmee B, Jess C, Sienna C, Sophia D, Ella G, Anjor G, Ivy K, Esme S and Violet S! A big thank you goes to Mrs Allison for umpiring, Mrs Jacobs for coaching and Mr Harrison for making a surprise appearance to give some welcoming advice and tips! A big thank you also goes to Miss Jelfs and Mr Braddick at the Senior School for hosting such a fun and well-organised tournament!
