Year 6 has been looking at using different formulae to calculate the area of different regular and irregular 2D shapes such as squares, various rectangles and different types of triangles.
Each formula dictated more than one mathematical procedure, sometimes three or even more! Not content with the challenge of selecting the correct order of operations to satisfy the demands of each question, the pupils stretched and challenged themselves by devising various compound shapes of their own, using different units of measurement.
By the way; does anyone know the area of a Dorito? Just asking…
