In Art, Year 5 have been focusing on the artist Georgia O’Keeffe. Her love of nature and paintings of close-up views of flowers have inspired our pupils to look more closely at fabulous florals. Applying their newly polished skills of creating tonal variation through shading and texture through varied mark-making, they closely observed a flower. With the words, ‘draw what you see and not what you think you see’ echoing in their ears, Year 5 used their eyes to really capture the detail and fabulousness of a flower.
In the words of Georgia O’ Keeffe “If you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it’s your world for a moment.” Year 5’s fabulous floral moments are the inspiration for future flower paintings and the opportunity to let their watercolour techniques bloom.
