On Sunday 15th January, a group of students were lucky enough to go and watch the final Netball international between England and Jamaica who are ranked third and fourth respectively in the world. Esmee B (First Form) writes about the trip below:
“The match was held in the Copper Box Arena, which is part of the 2012 Olympic Park in London. When we arrived at the Copper Box, we got our tickets and went to find our seats, which were high up, meaning we could see everything. Before the match started, we had a chance to look around the shops and, when we got back to our seats, the atmosphere in the Copper Box was amazing.
Sunday’s match was the decider in the three-match series, which meant it was a very exciting and tense game. England started off in the lead with Jamaica catching up. By half time, the game was nail-biting as the scores were level, but in the last quarter, England overtook Jamaica and won the game 63 – 59, and subsequently the series.
Everyone watching was very impressed by the speed and intensity of the match, it was so quick and the energy required to play at this level is very intense. The game had me on the edge of my seat as the lead went back and forth between the two teams. When England won, the crowd went wild and the atmosphere was incredible. After an incredible experience of watching England versus Jamaica, we had to make our way back to the School. It is a day I will always remember!”
