This week, children in Year 3 have been embracing The Big Draw Festival and its 2022 theme of Come Back to Colour. Using their knowledge of the different types of Ancient Greek temple columns, the children chose to capture the beautiful scrolls of the massive Ionic columns in big drawings.
A new drawing medium was introduced – chalk pastels. Experimenting in their sketch books first, they familiarised themselves with drawing with chalk pastels. Rubbing, smudging, heavy and light lines, mixing colours and big mark making gestures were enthusiastically practised.
Their drawing skills were enhanced by the addition of eye-catching colour so that the plain white marble columns of the past, were transformed into enormous, colourful columns of the present.
