The SVPS Chamber Choir had a flavour of the professional lifestyle when they visited the VOCES8 Centre in London on Wednesday. VOCES 8 are a world-renowned vocal ensemble particularly renowned for their exquisite a cappella singing. Earlier this term, the choir had enjoyed two visits from Laurel Neighbour, one of VOCES8’s team of education leaders, who helped the group prepare for this term’s Summer Concert. However, we were also lucky enough to be invited for a recording session at the VOCES8 Centre, the group’s incredible London base at the Church of St Anne and St Agnes. As well as being a stunningly beautiful building with a fabulous acoustic, it is also kitted out with a full range of professional recording equipment. When we arrived at the centre, the acoustic team where busy setting up microphones, cameras, and all manner of kit in preparation for Chamber Choir’s recording session.
After an inspiring warm-up with Laurel, the Chamber Choir prepared to focus on their singing and the recording began. The children really rose to the challenge, behaving and singing like true professionals. So much so that at the end of the session they sang their final song for the first time ever without being conducted and brought it off with great aplomb! The VOCES8 mission is to inspire people through music and share the joy of singing. That mission was undoubtedly achieved and after a fabulous day out the children are extremely excited to see and hear the results of the day which we will share with you as soon as the recording is available. Many thanks, VOCES8!
