On Wednesday, our Third Form CCF cadets went to Hythe Ranges to gain some shooting experience. They have been training for the last six months with their weapons and have all passed their weapons handling test.
The weather started off wet but eventually, the sun came out and all the cadets started to hit the target. The range of activities included the DCCT (the Army version of a laser video game), an electronic target range where the targets will fall when hit, making it easy for the cadets to see their progress, and a 100m gallery range where they had the opportunity of not only firing but also of being at the target end of the range (under a concrete mantlet – perfectly safe!) and seeing the shots appear on the targets, before patching them up.
The background activities included military quizzes with the best scores being achieved by Finnley Dawling, Freddie Lee, Jack Page and Filipp Rivanenok.
For those that enjoy shooting, there is always the option of joining the shooting team and who knows, possibly one day shooting for their national team!
Thank you to the cadets whose attitude was exemplary, even in the drizzle, to the Sixth Form NCOs and to the staff, especially Major Millbery, for organising the event.
