Each term, members of the Shooting team compete in the British Schools Smallbore Shooting Association (BSSRA) postal league matches.
Teams of four or five shoot five cards at the school’s 25-yard range, which are then posted to a scorer to be marked. This means that the Shooting team is able to compete against other schools across the country every week within the School timetable.
This term, three teams were entered: SVS A in the section one (10-bull target) competition, and SVS B and C in the section two (five-bull target) competition. We also entered a number of Third Form in the tyro competition for new shooters.
We are delighted to report that we have had a number of successes. SVS A won their division, with special mention to Daniel Wild (Lower Sixth) for scoring a 100 out of 100 on one of his cards. SVS B drew first place with Sevenoaks, but came second overall on aggregate. Filipp Rivanenok (Fourth Form) from SVS B was the top score in the whole of his division and was commended by his scorer on achieving a 100 out of 100 on one of his cards. Angus Brown (Third Form) came second in the tyro competition on handicap, demonstrating just how much he has improved since September.
This is an excellent achievement for the team, who should be proud of their efforts this year. The series of recent shooting successes are down to the hard work and dedication of the team, from Third Form through to Sixth Form. We look forward to the start of the full bore season over the next few weeks.
