It simply isn’t an adventure worth telling if there aren’t any dragons. – J.R.R Tolkien
Year 3 have been embarking on creative adventures in their Art and Design Technology lessons. They have been carried away by their love of levers and linkages, simple mechanisms that have helped them construct dragons in the form of snapping jaw monsters. The intrepid designers made clever use of their equipment – rulers to measure accurately, erasers and pencils to prick perfect split pin holes safely and reading maps of instructions carefully.
Daringly, they applied their creative thinking skills and experimented with extending their monster making mission to also drawing dragons. Observational skills and their Super Powers of looking, combined with an introduction to drawing pencils (a 6B being the favourite), led Year 3 on another adventure. Exploring mark making, tonal variation and textural techniques, the artistic adventurers drew what they saw, not what they thought they saw! Applying their familiarity with dragons, Year 3 were inspired to draw their own imaginary dragons – definitely an adventure worth telling!
