Elle Steel joined our Grounds department aged 17 and immediately became a valued member of the team. The first female and youngest-ever member of the grounds team threw herself into her Apprenticeship with a real thirst for knowledge and keenness to learn from the more experienced members of staff. No job fazed her and even the most powerful mower was driven with skill and enthusiasm.
Myerscough College facilitated the apprenticeship, and regular visits from the tutor gave Elle the knowledge needed to expand her horizons. Through her first Summer Term, Elle started to learn the science and judgement needed to work on the School cricket pitches.
Every year Elle developed her skills, and although football is still her first love, has confessed she prefers working on cricket and wants to continue to expand her knowledge. After three years of hard work, she has now passed her Apprenticeship with a merit over the three separate tests and a distinction for her practical test, which shows her determination to succeed.
The department is always a livelier place to work in with Elle around, and long may that continue.
