Emanuel School
Emanuel School is an independent co-educational secondary school for 950 day students in Wandsworth, London SW11. The School was founded in 1594 by Anne Sackville, Lady Dacre and Queen Elizabeth I.
Sutton Valence School is a member of The United Westminster and Grey Coat Foundation (educational charity no. 1181012). The foundation manages five schools; two state academies (both comprehensive) and three independent schools. The UWGCF was originally comprised of two separate foundations – The United Westminster School’s Foundation and The Grey Coat Hospital Foundation, before their merger in 2019.
The foundation’s aim is to build upon a strong history and excellent record of educational achievement and to strengthen this provision in both the state and independent sectors in a mutually supportive and collaborative environment for the benefit of the Foundation’s students.
The foundation provides support to the various administrations, logistically and financially, as well as sharing best practice professionally for staff, with shared educational experience for students.

Each year, the Foundation schools enter competitions with each other. The Art competition is always highly competitive, with excellent entries from all schools. You can view the most recent exhibition below.
Our students participate in an annual competition, designed as an educational simulation, in which they learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. Competing against the other four Foundation schools, they are challenged to create a convincing argument on a range of topical, real-world subjects. Judged on the strength of argument and the ability to handle tough scrutiny, the students are offered high-level debating opportunities.
We are delighted to participate in a Foundation-wide Music concert, which takes place annually, featuring talented musicians across all five schools. Traditionally held in a prestigious London venue, such as St John’s Smith Square, musicians have the chance to perform to large audiences with a wide-ranging musical programme. Performances include both orchestral and choral pieces before all five schools come together for one final ensemble piece.
Since 1969, we have been proud to be involved in the United Westminister and Grey Coat Foundation Athletics Day. With each school taking it in turns to host the event, it provides athletes with a wonderful opportunity to challenge themselves against high-level opposition. With a full day’s athletics programme, spread across track and field events, the boys contest the Godfrey Cup and the girls compete for the Millenium Cup.
