Congratulations to our team expertly coached by WO2 M. Thapa at CADSAM, Your hard work and dedication have once again solidified Sutton Valence’s reputation as the top cadet force in the South East. Full report by RSM Rivanenok below:
Last weekend the shooting team, comprising RSM Filipp R, Sgt Angus B, Corporal Edward P and Cpl Bradley V departed on one of its main competitions, the Cadet Skill at Arms Meeting. It is the ultimate test of practical marksmanship on the L98A2 rifle against both ACF and CCF units from the South East. It consists of three main shoots. The Fire Control Assessment which requires good knowledge on controlling your rate of fire, the Advance to Contact where shooters needed to run sprints of 100m between firing points in order to simulate a section’s assault towards the enemy and the Attack/Reorg where a 100m sprint would be followed by targets appearing at different distances from the firing point.
The next morning came a different competition, the falling plate. Organised in a tournament style, teams would face each other side by side in a 100m sprint followed by a shoot to hit down ten plates from the two hundred meter firing point. We had a rocky start but, we fought through to the final where we faced an ACF team. They were performing well and had proven themselves to be a set of very competent marksmen so the pressure was certainly on. We started with a hundred meter sprint before getting down and engaging the targets. Both teams were making good progress. It came down to having one plate left and, with seconds to spare, Sutton Valence fired the winning shot leading us to be the victors of this year’s Falling Plate.
