Following on from the 1st XI Boys Hockey making it through the Tier 3 National Plate Semi Final this week, we wanted to continue with the theme of hockey within Sutton Valence School.

Hockey was first introduced in the 1950’s as a Lent Term games option along with Fives and Cross-Country running.

We have had numerous Old Suttonians go on to play professionally, including Olympian Ashley Jackson (2005 H) who made his international debut for Great Britain in 2007 (Men’s Hockey Champions Trophy) and for England in 2009 (Men’s Hockey Champions Trophy). He went on to win gold in the 2009 Men’s EuroHockey Nations Championship where he also won the Player of the Tournament.

Old Suttonian and fellow Olympian Susannah Townsend (MBE) (2007 G) made her international debut in 2008 and was part of the Olympic gold-winning Team GB squad in Rio.
