North Downs Walk

Each year the Weald of Kent Rotary run a North Downs Walk in aid of Cancer Research. It is centred around Harrietsham and offers a choice of walks of one mile, three miles, six miles and nine miles.

What makes this walk a little different from others is that walkers can split their sponsorship 50/50 between Cancer Research and their own charity. This makes it a very simple way to raise funds for say a school activity without the hassle of all the organisation that goes into a sponsored walk. The other difference is that all participants get a free ploughman’s lunch followed by strawberries and cream.

To run such a walk takes between 50 and 60 helpers. They could be marshals, checking walkers in or out, helping in the car park or helping with the food. Therefore, we are looking for willing helpers to assist with the running of the walk.

This is a great opportunity for Duke of Edinburgh participants to tick off their community service and a number of other schools also take part.

There is also a cup for the team that raises the most money – a combined school/teachers team would be very welcome. To date we have raised over £300,000 for Cancer Research – it would be great if Cornwallis could join us.
