This term, children in Year 4 started their new topic, Innovate and Create, by first trying to understand what these words meant. They had a thought-provoking conversation, concluding that it had something to do with making something and our imagination.
They found out about ‘Entrepreneurship’, including social entrepreneurship, and the different activities involved before finding out about Sky and Kia Ballantyne and their amazing product, the Crikey Bikey. Sky invented the product when she was 11 years old, as part of a school project. Not only did they have a good product, but they impressed many with their fantastic pitch, securing funding in and out of the Dragons Den.
Our pupils then started to explore their strengths and passions, in preparation to make their own products for their very own version of Dragons Den in the next few weeks. Some pupils felt so inspired by the lesson that they were able to identify some clubs and activities that they wanted to work on immediately, submitting Action Team forms at the end of the lesson.
If you would like to be part of our pitching panel, or you would like to come and talk to the children about a product you or your company make, your start-up, or any other relevant experience and skills, please get in touch at essuj@svs.org.uk.
