This week, Alice Chew, Johanna Meyer and Savannah Taylor (all Lower Sixth) started their volunteering placement at the Salvation Army in Maidstone. Savannah had previously worked with Mr Jones and Clothworkers’ House to set up an appeal for donations, meanwhile, Mr Shuttleworth is also currently doing an appeal with Lambe’s House.
On Wednesday, they took the collected donations in, firstly making sure to check the expiry dates and sort the food into categories, before making up bags as per the instructions. The girls will be collecting donations until at least Christmas.
The girls reflected on their experience saying, “It was amazing to be able to give back to the community and help those in need. There was a well-organised system for how they separate food and we were grateful to have this opportunity to volunteer there. A huge thanks to Marion for giving us the opportunity and Miss Manning for taking us there.”
