The Year 3 children have been studying Hinduism.  First, they listened to the story of Rama and Sita, which they recreated in various ways including hot seating, ordering of main events and cartoons.  This led them nicely into learning about Divali and discovering how this Festival of Light is celebrated.  The children even designed their own diva lamp!

Year 4 have been studying Christianity, particularly focusing on the story of Jesus’ birth. They have looked at it in great depth; some children even imagined they were reporters who were recording this event, asking excellent questions to the shepherds in particular.

In Year 5, pupils have been studying Buddhism, learning about the five moral precepts, the four noble truths and the eightfold path.  They found it interesting to compare the Buddhist code of living to the rules or commandments of other religions.  They had great fun dramatising the story of Siddhartha Gautama, in assembly.  They have also been busy drawing ‘Moral Precept’ hands and Dharma wheel ciphers.  They are definitely on their way to enlightenment with all their hard work!

Year 6 have been looking at many different Christian religious buildings. They concluded that churches come in many different shapes and forms and recognised why certain denominations lay emphasis on different aspects of going to church. They were also interested to learn that the Bible says:  ‘Where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.’  Matthew 18:20
