Each year, the Sixth Form Mathematicians sit the UKMT Senior Mathematics Challenge. The test is renowned for being tough, as it aims to encourage us to utilise abstract problem-solving skills and mathematical reasoning to tackle interesting and unfamiliar questions. Whilst tough, with the right attitude and making use of a few past papers, many find the test quite enjoyable, with some of the especially challenging questions being particularly thought provoking. For many avid mathematicians, and those of us who are looking to study subjects such as maths and engineering in the future, receiving either a bronze, silver or gold certificate is a very useful accolade. Everyone who took part this year did very well, and deserves huge congratulations. Particular congratulations go to Kevin Cai of Upper Sixth (pictured), who has earned an invitation to the British Mathematical Olympiad, together with a gold certificate and Upper Sixth Form pupil, Ryan Washington who has been invited to the Senior Kangaroo, the next level of the competition.
