This November, as we return to School for the second half of the term and the country goes into lockdown for a second time, Mr Moulton decided to take part in Movember. On the 1 st November, he shaved his beard completely off and started to grow a new moustache for Movember. Here’s what he had to say:
‘ During Movember, you can grow facial hair, you can get up and move; you can even (when it was allowed) have group fundraisers and events to raise both awareness and donations!
One of the biggest reasons that this speaks so personally to me is that I believe it’s so important to encourage men and boys of all ages to openly talk about their mental health – something that we as a society struggle to do.
This isn’t just a trendy new look I’m going for, it has two goals:
Number 1: To raise money for a charity that does a wonderful amount in raising awareness of men’s mental health and for men’s cancers. Two things that affect a huge number of men across the UK every year. To read a bit more about what Movember do then click here.
Number 2 and perhaps the most important one: To use the interesting looking facial hair that I am growing to encourage conversation with everyone about Mental Health. Whether that be a younger student asking why my face looks funny or a member of staff asking if I’m really going to keep it – it opens up a way to bring mental health into the conversation, not just for men or boys, but for everyone!
So if you want to help me raise money towards this wonderful charity then you can find my Mo-space here and if you would like to have a chat about Mental Health then talk to ANYONE! Failing that, you can always come and chat with me.’
