Year 5 have started their new book study for this term, The Girl Who Stole an Elephant. Zizrana Farook continues to enthral and entertain us with her vivid and colourful descriptions of Sri Lanka and the ongoing adventure experienced by three children and an elephant. The pupils have been practising skim reading to gather evidence from the text so that they can generate character profiles for Nour, Neel or Chaya.
Some of the information had to be inferred; reading between the lines and using implied evidence. A tricky but very useful comprehension skill that Year 5 are practising. Along with beautifully joined handwriting, lists of adjectives, brackets for extra information and a carefully drawn image of Chaya, their ‘Meet the Character’ photo album pages are very informative.
