Prefect Evelyn W (Year 6) has written an excellent book review of The Wolves of Willoughby Chase, by Joan Aiken.

From the first unexpected wolf attack onwards, tension seems to be around every corner. I was gripping the book at times. Bonnie goes on the most extraordinary adventure and we live every moment with her. This book has everything – funny moments, scary thrills, heroes and villains. The children are the heroes of the story and I love that most about it, of course.

Bonnie Green, now there’s a character to remember. She reminds me of a younger me. She is adventurous and confident but does have a silly temper and is somewhat spoiled. I admire how she perseveres; Super Hoot would be proud.

I loved the imaginary world which was a mixture of something like the world we live in and a brand new, strange one. In this version, the Channel Tunnel was completed hundreds of years ago and has caused a great deal of trouble.

Miss Letitia Slighcarp is an excellent villain. She disguises her true intentions from nearly everyone and is set on having Sir Willoughby’s fortune, but of course, I cannot possibly tell you if she succeeds in her mission.           

It’s five stars from me.’
