Mrs Savage’s Year 5 set had a vile time on World Book Day creating eye-catching, blood-curdling covers inspired by their villainous writing.
During lessons, they have focused on developing their suspense and action writing skills. Applying the authorial techniques of using the senses to enhance descriptions, creating atmosphere through carefully chosen verbs, varying sentence lengths for impact and drama and including punctuation for effect, they rose to the gruesome challenge of…scaring the teacher!
In addition, they used their amazing imaginations to create vile villains, characters that grabbed their attention for their book cover designs. Covers need to make a reader feel something rather than ‘tell’ them something, so if you dare, please judge Year 5’s brilliant horror books by their cool covers!
