On Saturday, following on from a great win last week, the Saracens U18s played against London Irish U18s in two fixtures. As predicted, it was extremely windy, but the tricky conditions did not hamper any of the endeavour shown by both teams.
We were so impressed to see eight of our students in the line-up this week. In the first game, Saracens U18s won 19–14 in an excellent battle of wills. Nathan Michelow (Lower Sixth) captained the team again, alongside teammates Charlie Galligan (Upper Sixth), Alfie Goater (Upper Sixth), William Hunt (Upper Sixth) and Jenson McInulty (Lower Sixth). William, who enjoyed his first Saracens game of the year, put in a tremendous performance, carrying the ball well on ten occasions and making 11 tackles.
In the second game, Tyler Weekes (Lower Sixth) captained his first Saracens game, along with Jasper Benson and Jacob Ray (both Lower Sixth). They played in what turned out to be a more free-flowing game, and despite the 17 – 7 loss, there was plenty of effort and positivity shown by the team, which is a huge credit to the players considering many haven’t played rugby for 14 months.
Congratulations to you all, we are very proud of your hard work and discipline. A big thank you goes to Mr Dawling and Mr Howell for their guidance and support, which is evident having eight players in the team – a truly wonderful achievement for the Sports department.
