During their Mathematics lessons this week, our Year 5 children have been focusing on measures – converting metric units of measurement by dividing and multiplying by the relevant multiple of ten and then applying this knowledge to multi-step word problems.
Keen to stretch and challenge themselves further, the children then set about estimating quantities of units of measurements, such as how much water is there in a full washing machine, or what is the weight of an adult guinea pig?! Next week, Year 5 are going back in time to pre-1961 to look at the use of Imperial units of measurement and how they compare to their metric counterparts.
