Congratulations to Florence Powell (Second Form) who has gained a place in the prestigious Canterbury Cathedral Girls’ Choir.
Canterbury Cathedral is one of the oldest and most famous Christian structures in the world and it forms part of a World Heritage site. It is also the mother church of the Anglican Communion and the seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury. The Girls’ Choir consists of 25 girls aged between 12 and 18, under the directorship of the Assistant organist David Newsholme.
For her interview, Florence had to perform in front of Mr Newsholme and other music staff. She sang a couple of pieces, did some aural tests, plus had a general conversation with them.
Florence will take part in various services and choir rehearsals, alongside continuing as a full member of SVS Chapel Choir.
Florence is very dedicated to her singing, having lessons with Mr Moulton and also attending extra theory sessions with Mr Horley, Director of Music.
Well done Florence, what a fantastic achievement.
