Earlier this week, we were delighted to welcome our new students who will be joining the Sixth Form in September.
After a meet-and-greet and subsequent tour of the School with our prefects, the new Lower Sixth students attended a welcome address by Mr Ellmers, Head of Sixth Form and Mrs Rose, Assistant Head. Talking through the opportunities and expectations of Sixth Form life, Mr Ellmers outlined the academic options, pastoral and support structures and enrichment opportunities that will be available to all our new students.
As many of the new students joining the Lower Sixth had already been involved in our successful pre-A Level courses, we arranged for them to meet, in real life, with different Heads of Department to discuss their future A Level study in more depth.
Following these meetings, the new students attended an introductory seminar on digital learning with Mr Millbery, Director of ICT, followed by a welcome from Mr Farrell, Senior Deputy Head, who elaborated on the opportunities available to students outside of the classroom including CCF, the Duke of Edinburgh Award, Art, Music, Drama and Sport.
Before a taster Games lesson with the current Lower Sixth students, they enjoyed a lunch with their respective Housemasters and Housemistresses and managed to catch the end of the first game of our internal Sixth Form football tournament.
As some of our new students are based overseas and therefore unable to attend the Induction Day in person, Mr Ellmers welcomed them virtually via Teams calls that morning. Miss Manning, Head of English as an Additional Language (EAL), also held an informative discussion, outlining the support and opportunities that overseas students will enjoy to improve and develop their English.
We look forward to continuing to get to know our new Lower Sixth students when they arrive in September.
