Sutton Valence School is pleased to report some outstanding achievements by its students in their A Levels and other qualifications this summer.

This year, following the cancellation of external examinations, grades have been awarded through a process of teacher assessed grades (TAGs), against a national standard and approved and awarded by the exam boards. The government is not publishing performance data for any schools or colleges this year due to the varying impact of the pandemic.

It is important to remember that the last 18 months have been an incredibly challenging time for our students. Students have not experienced this much disruption to their education since World War II and the current Upper Sixth cohort have had a large proportion of their two year A Level courses affected. We, as a School, worked hard to try and minimise this disruption as best we can – our teachers worked tirelessly to introduce new online-learning platforms, often giving up their holidays to plan online lessons and attend webinars on how these new platforms worked. We are so impressed with how well our students adapted to these changes and we thank them for their hard work. 
 
To highlight some of the outstanding results, Juliet De Banzie achieved four A*s and one A and Molly Veasey achieved three A*s and one A. Both Tarik Abed and Alexander Duckett have gained university places to study Medicine, Crystal Chen gained a place at UCL to study Mathematics and Philippa Dow gained a place at Durham to study Liberal Arts.

“We are very pleased indeed with the results which our A Level students received today”, said the new Headmaster, James Thomas. “It was in so many ways an extraordinary two years of Sixth Form for this group of impressive young people and they should be very proud of their achievements in trying circumstances. I enjoyed speaking with a number of them today about their plans for the future and hearing how much they appreciated their time here at SVS. The significant work and support from all the staff here at the School should also be noted as well as all the time and effort behind the scenes from parents. We wish this cohort every success in the future and look forward to keeping in contact with them.”
