Psychology
The psychology department aims to provide a teaching a learning environment which maximises the ability of each student to achieve their potential. To achieve this the department aims to provide a variety of constantly re-evaluated teaching experiences, within a supportive, nurturing, learning environment. A questioning classroom culture is promoted, formed on the basis of rationalised thought and argument. The chosen course is designed to afford the best possible platform for entry into University whatever their chosen discipline, yet allowing those who wish to develop their knowledge of psychology beyond A-level to experience a broad based education in psychology that will facilitate this transition.
AS Level:
The AS year provides the platform upon which the A2 year is built. It comprises of two modules:
• AS Module 1 – Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology and Research Methods
• AS Module 2 – Biological Psychology, Social psychology and Individual Differences
A Level:
The A Level syllabus comprises of two modules. These build on the knowledge gained at AS:
• A2 Module 3 – Topics in Psychology: Aggression; Eating Behaviour; Cognition and Development
• A2 Module 4 – Psychopathology: Depression; Psychology in Action: The Psychology of Addictive Behaviour; Psychological Research and Scientific Method.
Please note: all modules are examination based only; there is no coursework element. At A2 the examinations are essay based.
