GCSE Options
Inevitably, pupils are unable to continue their studies in every subject beyond Third Form and therefore, our curriculum has been developed to take into account the demands of GCSE.
All pupils follow a core containing Maths, English, Science, Languages, Physical Education and Games, Personal, Social and Health Education and Religious Studies. We encourage pupils to avoid, as far as possible, early specialisation and maintain a balanced overall curriculum.
Options:
All pupils study one subject in each option column. The option blocks are arranged so that pupils meet the requirements of the English Baccalaureate. The first block contains the modern languages, the second the humanities, the third the remaining optional subjects and finally the fourth, which takes place on Wednesday afternoon, the CCF, PE and the creatives.
Though the requirements of specific careers should be borne in mind, we encourage students to base their choices on their interests, preferences and abilities, bearing in mind that many subjects may be taken from scratch in the Sixth Form and need not be studied at GCSE first.
